Amazon.com on Thurs. slashed pricing on Warner Bros. HD DVD titles as the format is cleared from retail inventory.
This week the retailer price cut various titles and box sets to new low prices, including the Ocean’s Trilogy at $34.49, The Ultimate Matrix Collection at $49.99, Harry Potter 1-5 Year Gift Set at $71.49, 2001 – A Space Odyssey at $15.99 and 300 at $21.99.
Amazon is offering up to 50 percent off 150 HD DVD titles to clear stock of the high-definition format.
This week, Amazon price cut Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 HD DVD Player to $49.99 from $129.99. Microsoft on Sat. said it would end production on the item, which was introduced in late 2006.
Toshiba last week said it will exit the HD DVD business by Mar. following announcements from Best Buy Co. Inc., Netflix Inc., and Wal-Mart stores that they would back Blu-ray over HD DVD.
In contrast, retailers have begun to offer discount incentives to drive the purchase of Blu-ray products.
Amazon is offering up to 50 percent off select Blu-ray disc titles.
Best Buy this week is touting Blu-ray and the Playstation 3 on its weekly circular. The retailer is offering an HDTV, PS3, game, and Blu-ray disc package for under $2,000.
