Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s moved a little more than 14,000 units in the latest Japan retail data.
Magazine publisher Enterbrain this week said that the Xbox 360 sold 14,079 units in the month of Feb.
By comparison, Nintendo Co.’s Wii sold 331,627 units and Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 sold 89,131 in the same period.
Xbox 360 sales remained tepid from late Jan. through Feb. even on the release of Capcom Co.’s Devil May Cry 4. Upon release, the action sequel did little to boost lagging sales in the territory.
In the U.S., the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 in the month of Jan. Microsoft in Feb. said that the Xbox 360 is in short supply following strong Dec. sales. and that inventory will adjust in Mar.
Retailers this month discounted the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player to $49.99 to clear inventory following Toshiba Corp.’s exit from the HD DVD business.
Microsoft last week said that it does not expect the fall of HD DVD to impact Xbox 360 sales.
