Nintendo Co.’s Wii outsold Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 by 4-to-1 in the month of Feb. in the latest Japan retail data.
Magazine publisher Enterbrain this week said that the Wii sold 331,627 compared to 89,131 PS3 units in the four-week period.
Additionally, the title Super Smash Bros. Brawl has sold 1.33 million units in one month of release. The fitness title Wii Fit sold an additional 309,311 units in the month.
Wii Fit has sold more than 1 million units to date in the territory.
The PS3 has held sales under the Wii in weekly tallies, however demand increased in late Jan. on the release of Capcom Co.’s Devil May Cry 4.
In the states, Wii ranked as the No. 1-selling game hardware in the month of Jan., moving 274,000 units according to new data from NPD Group Inc this week.
Sony held increased PS3 sales during the month of Jan. in the U.S., moving 269,000 units to outsell Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 according to NPD Group Inc.
Sony on Tues. said that it will release a new Metal Gear SKU in late Q2 to include a 80GB PS3, DualShock 3 controller, and Metal Gear Solid 4 for $499.99.
