
Amazon.com this week discounted more HD DVD titles in the latest bid to spur sales of the high-definition format.
The retailer is offering nearly 150 HD DVD titles at 50 percent off. Earlier in the week it discounted a little over 100 titles.
Newly discounted titles include Zodiac (Two-Disc Director’s Cut), Transformers, Stardust, and Face Off.
Additionally, Amazon this week price cut Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 HD DVD Player to $79.99 to spur sales to the No. 1 rank in the Video Games division.
Retailers this month are offering steep price cuts on all high-definition products.
Wal-Mart this week offered the HD-A3 HD DVD Player to online customers and subsequently sold out.
Circuit City this week began offering a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a built-in HD DVD drive, a free Bourne Ultimatum on HD DVD format, and a wireless router for $799.98 after rebates.
Toshiba last month price cut all stand alone HD DVD Players following an announcement from Warner Bros. that it will produce high-definition content exclusively on Sony Corp’s Blu-ray disc format.
