Majesco Entertainment Co. on Wed. said that sales for the Cooking Mama franchise have reached $1.6 billion in software sales on Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Nintendo DS handheld.
Titles in the franchise include Cooking Mama, Cooking Mama: Cook Off, and Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends.
A sequel to Cooking Mama: Cook Off for Wii is due out later this year.
“The success of Cooking Mama has been akin to catching lightning in a bottle,” said Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Majesco.
“A unique concept, iconic main character and gameplay execution that fully utilizes the stylus and Wii Remote™ have proved to be a winning combination. We appreciate the continued support from all of Mama’s fans and look forward to launching the fourth title in the franchise later this year.”
Nintendo Co. this month posted a profit increase of 63 percent on strong sales for the Wii home video game system and the Nintendo DS handheld.
The sales forecast for Wii was raised to 18.5 million, an increase from a target of 17.5 million. In addition, it raised the sales forecast for the Nintendo DS to 29.5 million units by fiscal Mar.
