Advanced orders for Take-Two Interactive Inc.’s Grand Theft Auto IV for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 increased at retailer Amazon.com following a finalized release date of Apr. 29 this week.
By Thurs. afternoon, sales for the Xbox 360 version increased 284 percent, the PS3 version 239 percent, and the Xbox 360 Special Edition version at 210 percent.
Take-Two Interactive in Aug. delayed Grand Theft Auto IV to 2008 from an orignal Oct. 2007 release. The publisher cited additional development time required to complete the title.
Grand Theft Auto IV is the next chapter in the best-selling Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The title focuses on Niko Bellic, an Eastern European immigrant who travels to Liberty City.
The Xbox 360 version will include two downloadable episodes available exclusively on Xbox Live.
The 2004 installment, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, came under political fire when a hidden sex mini game was found to be unlockable in the final product. In 2005, Take-Two released a revised version without the content.
