Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii home video game system reached more than 230,000 units in one week in the latest retail sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 232,907 units between Dec. 17 and Dec. 23. The figure represents an increase from 170,558 units the week prior.
Wii software charted five titles in the top ten sales, including Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and Wii Play.
Overall, Wii ranked as the No. 2 best-selling console for the week. The Nintendo DS handheld took the top spot in hardware sales.
Nintendo ranked as the top-selling console in the U.S. for the month of Nov., moving 981,000 units according to NPD Group Inc.
Nintendo in Oct. raised profit forecast estimates on strong demand for the Wii and Nintendo DS handheld. It expects to sell 17.5 million Wii units this business year.
