Xbox 360 sales stay flat in Dec. Japan charts

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 remain flat in the latest retail sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 8,561 between Dec. 10 and Dec. 16. By comparison the hardware sold 8,876 units the week prior.

The Xbox 360 ranked one software title in the top 50 sales, the RPG title Kingdom of Fire: Circle of Doom at No. 24.

The Xbox 360 has held lackluster sales in Japan on hit and miss software offerings for the region.

In the first half of 2007, Microsoft sold 122,565 Xbox 360 units in Japan, compared to 503,554 PS3 units and 1.78 million units of Wii, according to magazine publisher Enterbrain.

Microsoft in Oct. posted a Q1 profit in the Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business. Sales held on higher-than-expected Xbox 360 movement and demand for the action title Halo 3.

The Xbox 360 was the No. 3 video game hardware in Nov. U.S. sales. It has shipped 13.4 million units worldwide to date.
