
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo DS handheld beat Sony Corp’s PSP in the latest handheld bout at Japan retail.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Nintendo DS sold 124,591 units between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2. By comparison, the PSP sold 74,626 units in the same period.
The DS ranked four titles in the top 10 software sales, including the adventure title Professor Layton at No. 1.
Nintendo in Oct. raised profit forecast estimates on strong demand for the Wii and Nintendo DS handheld. It expects to sell 17.5 million Wii units this business year.
Sony in Oct. recorded a 96.7 billion yen loss in the game division that was offset by a quarterly profit from strong electronics sales.
