Microsoft Corp. on Fri. said that the Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update will be ready to launch on Dec. 4.
The free update will offer new features and enhancements to Xbox Live members and Xbox 360 owners.
Key enhancements include Xbox Originals to download classic Xbox titles, Family Timer to control the amount of time children spend playing games, and expanding social networking features to check out friends of friends.
Microsoft will launch the Arcade Hits program to permanently price cut the best selling Xbox Live Arcade titles. The first titles to be discounted include Bankshot Billiards 2 and Lumines Live at 800 Microsoft Points each.
In addition, Inside Xbox will bring a direct news feed to the Xbox Live Dashboad to relay new game releases, events, and Xbox Live Marketplace offers.
Microsoft in Oct. posted a Q1 profit in the Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business. Sales held on high-than-expected Xbox 360 movement and demand for the action title Halo 3.
The Xbox 360 was the No. 1 video game hardware in Sept. U.S. sales. It has shipped 13.4 million units worldwide to date.
