Microsoft on Thurs. said that it sold 310,000 Xbox 360 units Thanksgiving week to close in on Nintendo Co.’s sales for Wii the same period.
Additionally, the company said that Xbox 360 software sales are on track to exceed Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Nintendo Co.’s Wii.
Nintendo earlier this week said that Wii sales reached 350,000 units between Nov. 18 and Nov. 24., which included Black Friday sales.
Sony on Thurs. debunked Microsoft’s claim that the Xbox 360 outsold its PS3 hardware by 2-to-1.
Sony did not release a PS3 Thanksgiving sales estimate, but last week said that sales increased 245 percent between Nov. 18 and Nov. 24, which includes Black Friday sales.
Microsoft in Oct. held a spiked sales increase for the Xbox 360 on the launch of the anticipated title Halo 3. Robust sales helped record a Q1 profit for Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division, which includes Xbox business.
