Nintendo Co.’s Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii home video game system rocketed to No. 1 at retailer Amazon.com on strong pre-sales for the next Mario installment.
On Wed., the title held the No. 1 rank in Amazon’s Computer & Video Games division, ahead of titles like Activision’s Guitar Hero III and Microsoft Corp.’s Halo 3.
Super Mario Galaxy employs use of the motion-sensitive Wii Remote for new gravity-defying gameplay.
The title was showcased in mid-Oct. at the E for All Expo in Los Angeles. New elements include a Bee Suit power up and Manta Ray racing.
Nintendo last week raised profit forecast estimates on strong demand for the Wii and Nintendo DS handheld. It expects to sell 17.5 million Wii units this business year.
Nintendo has shipped 13.2 million Wii units to date worldwide.
