Konami Corp. on Wed. announced that the action title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 will be delayed to the second quarter of 2008.
Initially slated for release this winter, the company said that it decided to delay the release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game.
The anticipated Guns of the Patriots was showcased in mid-Oct at the E for All Expo in Los Angeles. The title features Old Snake in new tactical stealth combat missions.
The delay may hurt winter sales of the PS3, which has held lower-than-expected demand at retail to date. It will begin to retail a new $399 40GB SKU in the U.S. on Nov. 2 to spur sales.
Sony this week said that losses caused by the PS3 game console may near $1 billion, an increase from a prior estimate of $876 million.
The company last week recorded a 96.7 billion yen loss in the game division that was offset by a quarterly profit from strong electronics sales.
In Aug., Take-Two Interactive delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 for the PS3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 from Oct. to spring 2008.
