Sony Corp.’s 80GB Playstation 3 is a top-seller this week at Circuit City’s online division.
Introduced in July, the 80GB SKU bundle includes an 80GB PS3, wireless controller and a copy of Motorstorm for $499.
Sony in Aug. price cut the 80GB model by $100 to spur sales of the product.
On Thurs., Sony will offer a new $399 40GB PS3 SKU that includes a copy of Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray disc.
The strong sales of the 80GB version at the retailer is a positive note for Sony, which has seen lower-than-expected sales of the latest Playstation hardware.
Sony this week said that losses caused by the PS3 game console may near $1 billion, an increase from a prior estimate of $876 million.
The company last week recorded a 96.7 billion yen loss in the game division that was offset by a quarterly profit from strong electronics sales.
In Oct. the company’s U.S. game division released the card battle title The Eye of Judgment and the action title Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction to the PS3.
