Best Buy this week sold out of Sony Corp.’s 60GB Playstation 3 product and disclaimed limited in-store availability through the company’s online division.
On Tues. evening, the 60GB PS3 was sold out for direct purchase from Bestbuy.com. In addition, the store pickup option listed limited in-store availability.
Best Buy this week began offering a free game or controller with the purchase of a 60GB PS3 to online customers. The offer was previously made available to in-store buyers.
Sony in July price cut the 60GB PS3 by $100 to spur lagging sales. The bundle includes a copy of Motorstorm.
Sony this week said that losses caused by the PS3 game console may near $1 billion, an increase from a prior estimate of $876 million.
The company last week recorded a 96.7 billion yen loss in the game division that was offset by a quarterly profit from strong electronics sales.
