Nintendo Co’s Wii regained a 2-to-1 sales lead over Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 in the latest retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 24,992 units between Sept. 17 and Sept. 23. By comparison, the PS3 sold 10,732 units in the same period.
The latest Wii total is a minor decrease from 26,181 units the week prior.
Additionally, Wii ranked three titles in the top 10 game sales, including Mario Strikers Charged at No. 6, Mario Party 8 at No. 8 and Sengoku Musou Katana at No. 9.
The sales lead for Wii slimmed last week when sales narrowed to less than 2-to-1 over the PS3. In June, the Wii held a 6-to-1 lead over the PS3 in Japan.
Wii is the best-selling video game system in the current generation, selling nine million units worldwide to date. The hardware has sold about three million units in Japan.
The PS3 has sold more than 1 million units in Japan. Sony this month announced a new DualShock 3 controller that will debut in Nov. in Japan.
