Wii Fit to flex in U.S. on Jan. 1, say retailers

Nintendo Co.’s upcoming exercise program Wii Fit is slated for release at the start of the new year according to online retailers.

Amazon.com and EBGames.com list a release date of Jan. 1 for the casual fitness title.

Additionally, both retailers list a sale price of $69.99 for the product.

Wii Fit debuted in July at the E3 Media & Business Summit. The title will be sold with the Wii Balance Board to help consumers perform more than 40 exercises, including aerobics, muscle training, and yoga.

The title will help Nintendo extend Wii as a casual game platform. Top hits like Wii Sports and Wii Play have spurred sales to a mass market audience.

The hardware has sold more than 2.5 million units in the U.S. Additionally, it was the top-selling video game hardware in July, moving 425,000 units during the month.
