Circuit City this week began offering brick and mortar and online customers a free wireless controller and game title with the purchase of Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 video game console. The two-day Labor Day special offers a wireless controller and the sports title Table Tennis at no cost with the purchase of the Xbox 360 Premium game console.
The retail values the free products as a $119.98 value.
The discount is the latest promotion for the Xbox 360, which has sold more than 5.6 million units to date in the U.S.
Microsoft in Aug. price cut all Xbox 360 models from $20 to $50 in order to spur hardware sales. The price cut coincided with key game releases, including EA’s Madden NFL 08 and 2K’s Bioshock.
Additionally, Microsoft quietly introduced new HDMI inputs into the Premium SKU to allow for single-connection high-definition audio and video.
The company will release the highly anticipated sequel Halo 3 to U.S. retail on Sept. 25. The final chapter of the Halo trilogy is expected to drive hardware sales during the crucial holiday season.
