
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii declined 38 percent as software demand softened in the latest retail sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 46,283 units between Aug. 20 and Aug. 26, a sharp decline from sales of 73,938 units the week prior.
Mario Party 8, last week’s No. 1 best-seller, fell to the No. 4 sales rank, while Wii Sports fell from No. 5 to No. 10. Additionally, Wii Play fell from No. 4 to the No. 12 sales rank.
Wii is No. 2 best-selling video game hardware in Japan, behind the Nintendo DS handheld.
Nintendo has sold more than three million Wii units in Japan to date. It expects to ship 16.5 million units this business year.
