Wii leads over PS3, Xbox 360 at Amazon

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii home video game system on Tues. led over Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 in the latest sales data from Amazon.com.

This week, Wii ranked as the No. 1 best-selling item at Amazon’s Computer & Video Games division. Other Wii titles in the top ten include Wii Play, the Wii Remote and the Wii Nunchuk.

Sony’s 60GB Playstation 3 ranked in the No. 2 position. Additionlly, the wireless Sixaxis controller ranked at No. 7.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Elite ranked at the No. 22 position on the charts. The $479 deluxe edition held an in-stock status as of Tues. morning and performed better than the Xbox 360 premium console, which ranked at No. 30.

Advanced circulars detail that the Xbox 360 will receive a $50 price cut in Aug. The discount will take effect on the premium console.

Sony this month discounted the 60GB PS3 to $499 from $599. It will release a deluxe 80GB PS3 SKU in Aug.

Wii is the best-selling console in the U.S., moving more than 381,000 units in the month of June.
