Halo 3 to support four-player co-op on Xbox 360

Developer Bungie on Tues. said that the action sequel Halo 3 will feature cooperative online multiplayer support for up to four players on Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.

The next installment in the lucrative Halo franchise is due out on Sept. 25 in the U.S.

In the Halo 3 Campaign Mode, players can choose between Xbox Live and System Link co-op for up to four players. Split-screen co-op will be limited to two players, however two additional players can join via Xbox Live.

Previous installments of Halo allowed co-op in local fashion only.

The latest installment in the Halo series will allow players to finish the fight against the Covenant alien race on Earth.

The last entry, Halo 2, generated $125 million in game sales in a 24 hour period. To date the franchise has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide.

Advanced retail circulars this week indicate that Microsoft will price cut all Xbox 360 models by various amounts. The company has sold 5.6 million units to date in the U.S.
