Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 experienced a small gain in the latest sales figures for Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the PS3 sold 9,627 units between May 21 and May 27, an increase from 8,659 units sold the week prior.
While interest in the console grew, software sales for the PS3 were unable to rank in the top 50 rankings. PS3 software has not ranked in the top 50 sales for three consecutive weeks.
The latest Playstation remains less popular than previous Sony offerings, including the PSP handheld and the Playstation 2.
Sony last month posted a $563 million loss in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year on PS3 build-costs and lower than expected sales.
This month, it will release an 80GB PS3 hardware SKU in Korea. The company said it may release the new version to the states and other territories.
