Toys R Us restocks Wii for online customers

Toys R Us on Wed. restocked Nintendo Co.’s Wii video game system via its online division to offer the nation’s No. 1 home console to game fans.

Toysrus.com sold the stand-alone Wii without games and accessories for $249. It disclaimed that stock would leave its warehouse within two to three business days.

It subsequently sold out to eager buyers within one hour.

Wii is the best-selling home console in North America, moving 360,000 units in the month of Apr. Top games include Wii Sports and Wii Play.

The motion-sensitive titles have been a hit among consumers of all ages and usually hold little barrier to entry to invite many to play.

Nintendo this week released Mario Party 8, a casual party game that includes new mini-games that utilize the unique Wii Remote.

This month, the company forecasted 35 million Wii units sold by 2012, an ambitious goal for the video game veteran based on its current sell-out status in nationwide stores.
