Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 received a minor sales gain in Japan but overall sales remain far behind competitors.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 3,492 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25. By comparison, the hardware sold 2,910 units the week prior.
The hardware managed to rank one software title in the top 50 game sales, the action title Armored Core 4 at No. 19.
Xbox 360 sales have been meager in Japan following the release of Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3. Wii ranks No. 2 in overall hardware sales, with the PS3 at No. 4 and the Xbox 360 at No. 6.
Microsoft this week announced that it will release the Xbox 360 Elite to the U.S. on Apr. 29. The new SKU will include a piano black finish, HDMI, and a 120GB hard drive for $479.99.
The company expects to ship 12 million Xbox 360 units worldwide by fiscal June 2007.
