Sales for Nintendo Co.’s are far ahead of competitors in Japan on strong demand for motion-sensitive titles.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 75,571 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25.
By comparison, Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 sold 29,459 units and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 sold 3,492 units in the same period.
In addition, Wii ranked four software titles in the top 50 game sales for the week, including Wii Sports and Wii Play, which placed in the top ten.
Wii holds the No. 2 overall video game hardware position behind Nintendo’s own DS Lite handheld. The PS3 is ranked No. 4 and the Xbox 360 is ranked No. 6.
Wii is the best-selling home console in the U.S. and has held steady leads over the competition for Jan. and Feb. Most retail stores have been dry of stock, however supplies are expected to increase after the fiscal year ending Mar. 2007.
