Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 were steady in the latest hardware sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. said that the PS3 sold 20,459 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25. By comparison, the hardware sold 21,635 the week prior.
PS3 game sales remained weak in the country. It only ranked one title, Namco Bandai’s Gundam Musou, in the top 50 games sales for the week.
Overall, the PS3 ranked No. 4 in video game hardware sales, behind Nintendo Co.’s DS Lite, Wii, and Sony’s PSP handheld.
Sony last week launched the PS3 to Europe and held strong sales of 165,000 units in the UK. Top-sellers included Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm.
Sony released only the 60GB model to Europe and may option an 80GB model according to a recent FCC filing.
It expects to ship 6 million PS3 units worldwide by fiscal Mar. 2007.
