Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo DS Lite handheld is the No. 1-selling video game hardware in Japan, outpacing all other home consoles and handhelds.
Media Create Co. on Fri reported that the DS sold 130,549 units between Mar. 19 and Mar. 25.
By comparison, Wii sold 75,500 units, Sony Corp.’s PSP handheld sold 41,500 units, the PS3 sold 20,400 units and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 sold 3,400 units.
In addition, the hardware ranked an impressive 36 titles in the top 50 game sales on strong demand for casual and core offerings.
Top sellers include Yoshi’s Island 2, Dragon Ball Z, and Shin Chan.
To date, the Nintendo DS has sold more than 35 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, the PSP has sold 24.9 million units worldwide.
