Wii Play keeps top sales at online retail

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii Play software is maintaining consumer interest at online retail more than a month after release.

Wii Play is currently the No. 1 selling item at Amazon.com’s Computer & Video Games division. In addition, it is listed as a best-selling product at EBgames.com and Toysrus.com.

Wii Play is a collection of nine motion-sensitive game titles ranging from shooting to table tennis to billiards.

It also includes a Wii Remote controller in the retail package SKU.

The game has held brisk sales despite reviews that claim the collection of games lack depth. It received an average of 3.5 out of 5 stars from 97 reviews on Amazon.com’s product page.

Wii is the best-selling console in the U.S., outperforming Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.

Microsoft this week announced the Xbox 360 Elite, a new hardware SKU that will inlcude HDMI and a 120GB hard drive. Sony recently filed an FCC revision to option a PS3 SKU with an 80GB hard drive.
