Sony Corp. on Tues. detailed a new video trailer of the upcoming social networking service, Home, for the Playstation 3 at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, CA.
The two-minute video clip introduces Home as a virtual online space for the PS3 where owners create custom characters and socialize with other users.
Players can customize facial features, clothes, accessories and their own personal apartment space in Home. In addition, Home users can send private invitations to their apartment to share photos, videos, and music among guests.
To express themselves, users can employ emotes for quick animated gestures, access short phrases using quick write, type with a USB keyboard or talk with a Bluetooth headset.
Home will also serve as a meeting point to connect with other users for multiplayer games, including casual games like bowling and pool.
In the future, Sony hopes to expand home into a full virtual destination, with sponsored spaces, a virtual movie theater with downloadable content, and a Hall of Fame to collect animated three-dimensional trophies for display.
Home is expected to launch this fall.
