Orb allows PS3, Wii owners to nab PC content for TV

Orb Networks on Mon. announced that it has made available software that will allow owners of Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 to view PC content through the console’s internet browser.

The company currently offers the same service for Nintendo Co.’s Wii via its online web browser.

With the free MyCasting software,owners can organize their content on their PC and have it stream to their video game console via mycast.orb.com.

One of the perks to the software is allowing new video game system owners to view YouTube videos on their TV screen.

“We’ve had nearly 50,000 Wii users download Orb so they can watch their favorite YouTube videos, or enjoy a movie they have downloaded from the Web on their screen of choice — the TV screen,” said Joe Costello, chairman and CEO of Orb Networks. “People like the simplicity and instant gratification of walking the ten feet from their study to their living room and being able to finally view on their TV not only Internet content, but more importantly, all their personal digital media that lives on their home PC.”

Sony has sold 1 million PS3 units in the U.S. to date. It maintains a forecast of 6 million sold worlwide by Mar. 2007. Meanwhile, Nintendo has sold more than 1 million Wii units to the U.S. and forecasts sales of 6 million units by fiscal 2007.
