Insomniac’s Resistance: Fall of Man for the Playstation 3 is worthy fight that incorporates World War II and aliens in intense action.
The first-person shooter employs standard methods of command, including fire, jump, crouch, grenade, and melee attack. Players can equip weapons like a rifle or the Bullseye, an alien firearm that can shoot a tracer that bullets home in on.
Controls are solid, including aiming, shooting, jumping, and grenade tossing. Weapon selection is awkward with the analog R2 trigger and unable to facilitate quick changes.
Players battle against the Chimera, a fleet of aliens that are bent on human destruction. The AI engage in cover and movement tactics more sophisticated than standard FPS titles, though nearby enemies don’t seem to react when their band of brothers are killed.
Ally AI soldiers can’t handle the war tactics as easily. Most are killed off so that players can feel the isolation on the battlefield.
The graphics engine is solid at 30 frames per second. The engine can render large city environments that incur smoke blooms, explosions, object damage, and mass characters. Indoor environments sprout less detail, however, alien construction incorporates a sci-fi intrigue.
Online multiplayer is fast and fun. Players can sign up for free-for-all or team games that will add jump vents, multiple weapons and multi-tiered environments. Gameplay online was lag-free.
Resistance: Fall of Man is a solid bet on the PS3. A full review will be published on the title shortly.
