Japan publisher Enterbrain last week reported that surveyed Japanese retailers say that Nintendo’s Wii will outsell Sony’s Playstation 3.
When asked which new console will sell better this holiday season, 88% of retailers voted for Wii while 11% of retailers voted for the PS3.
Retailer confidence in Wii may be due to the success of Nintendo’s most recent handheld, Nintendo DS, which has been the best-selling video game hardware machine for months in Japan.
When asked which system will generate the most sales this holiday, 60.7% of retailers voted for the Nintendo DS, 32.8% voted for Wii, and the remaining votes were divided between the PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Nintendo will drop Wii to the U.S on Nov. 19 and in Japan on Dec. 2. Launch games will include The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Excite Truck. The company is expected to serve 1 million Wii units to the U.S.
Sony will deliver only 100,000 PS3 launch units to Japan due to a production delay in a key machine component. It recently cut the 20GB SKU to $430 to better compete against rivals.
