The Nintendo DS Lite hardware maintained a lead over rival video game offerings in Japan according to the latest retail sales information.
Media Create Co. on Friday reported that the DS Lite sold 139,835 units from Sept. 18 - Sept. 24. By comparison Sony’s PS2 sold 32,673 units, and the PSP 23,118 units in the same period.
DS software charted seven of the top ten software sales in the period, including titles like New Super Mario Bros., Final Fantasy III, and Brain Training 2.
Nintendo’s DS hardware has kept a sales lead for months on strong software selection for casual and veteran gamers. The company will employ a similar strategy for the release of its Wii video game system, out in Japan on Dec. 2.
