Avatar Pets will allow Xbox Live owners to purchase a virtual pet, including a dog, cat, goldfish, monkey, snake, or pony at 240 Microsoft Points each.
In addition, Xbox Live users who register at xbox.com/ffxiii will receive an exclusive Avatar Pet Chocobo from Square Enix Co.'s Final Fantasy XIII.
Microsoft currently offers an Avatar Marketplace to allow users to customize a virtual avatar on Xbox Live, including the option to purchase clothes and accessories.
The Xbox Live service holds more than 20 million members globally.
