Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said that global sales for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have totaled $550 million in the first five days of retail.

The previous five-day sales record holder was established by Take Two Interactive Inc.'s Grand Theft Auto IV at $500 million.

Modern Warfare 2 was released to Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and the PC on Nov. 10.

Modern Warfare 2 is sold in a stand-alone SKU at $59.99, a Hardened Edition at $79.99, and Prestige Edition at $149.99.

Modern Warfare 2, released Nov. 10, sold 4.7 million copies in first-day sales in the U.S. and UK regions.

Microsoft this month released the Xbox 360 250GB Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition SKU at $399.99.
