Best Buy Co. Inc. this week began sales of Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 Slim hardware and brick and mortar retail stores.

A store location in Southern California placed new PS3 Slim inventory in the aisle next to the video games division. An ample stock was located in a section devoted to PS3 hardware, games and accessories.

Sony this month price cut the current 80GB SKU to $299.99, while the 160GB SKU was price cut to $399.99 in the U.S.

The company last week announced the new PS3 Slim model, a smaller and lighter version of the hardware.

It will be sold nationwide on Sept. 1 in the U.S. at $299.99.
