Walkman turns 30; new OLED version to be sold

Sony Corp. on Wed. celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Walkman music device.

The iconic music player, which dominated the 80's portable music market, was first released in 1979.

Sony has sold 385 million Walkman machines worldwide in 30 years.

On July 3, the company will release a new version called the Walkman X.

The Walkman X will be sold in 16GB and 32GBM versions and feature a 3" OLED touch display and built-in Wi-Fi.

Pricing starts at $299.99.

Since the Walkman, Apple Inc.'s iPod has dominated the portable music market, selling 210 million units in eight years at retail.

Models include the iPod nano and the iPod Touch.
