Target moves Blu-ray to game shelf to help PS3 sales

Target Corp. stores have begun to cross-market Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 game titles and Blu-ray disc titles in an effort to promote the PS3 hardware.
Previous shelf space devoted to PS3 game titles now include a select number of Blu-ray disc titles to promote the game hardware as a Blu-ray disc player. Each PS3 includes a built-in Blu-ray disc drive to view high-definition titles. Blu-ray titles featured in the shelf space included Transformers, Eagle Eye, The Incredible Hulk, Total Recall, and the 40-Year-Old Virgin. The Playstation 3 sold 218,000 units to rank behind rivals in Mar. U.S. game sales. Target stores in Apr. began offering a new 2-game bundle PS3 bundle. The bundle includes an 80GB PS3 and two Greatest Hits titles – Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm for $399. Retailer Amazon.com this week restocked the Playstation 3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack after the SKU held a discontinued status at retail. The Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack, which includes software-based backwards compatibility with Playstation 2 titles, held a price of $499.99
