Amazon limits Xbox 360 Elite Resident Evil 5 purchases

Retailer Amazon.com has begun limiting the purchase of Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 Elite Resident Evil 5 bundles due to high demand for the product.

On the Xbox 360 Elite Resident Evil product page, the retailer disclaims a limit of three units per customer in a 30-day period.

The product currently ranks as the No. 37 product Amazon's Video Games division.

The RE5 Xbox 360 Elite SKU includes a red color console, red wireless controller, 120GB hard drive, and a token card including Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and exclusive Resident Evil Premium Theme for $399.99.

The hardware SKU carries a release date of Mar. 13.

Capcom in Feb. said that more than 1.8 million users have downloaded the Resident Evil 5 demo at the Xbox Live online service.

In Japan, the demo has been downloaded by 53 percent of all Xbox Live Gold users since release in Dec. Resident Evil 5 takes place ten years after the original title. A trailer was released in mid-2007.

The latest entry will include online and offline two-player co-op for the first time in the series.

Resident Evil 5 will be released in standard and Collector's Edition SKUs on Mar. 13.

Microsoft in Jan. said that Xbox 360 sales have reached 28 million units worldwide.

Also, the Xbox Live online service now holds 17 million members globally.
