Amazon restocks Wii; discounts MySims Kingdom

Retailer Amazon.com on Wed. restocked Nintendo Co.'s top-selling Wii home console and discounted a Wii game title in a one-day promotion.
On Wed. afternoon the Wii console held an in-stock status at $249.99. Additionally, it price cut EA Inc.'s MySims Kingdom to $19.98 from $29.99 in a Deal of the Day promotion. Also, the Nintendo DS version held a sale price of $12.98. Wii ranked as the top-selling console in Dec., moving two million units at U.S. retail. Nintendo in Jan. said that third quarter net profit declined nearly 18 percent due to a strong yen. Nintendo revised sales estimates for the Wii console for fiscal Mar. 2009 downward by three percent to 26.5 million units citing softness in the Japanese market, but strong sales outside of Japan. Meanwhile, sales targets for the Nintendo DS handheld increased three percent to 31.5 million units, while DS software forecast was lowered by seven percent to 193 million. Total Wii shipments have reached 45 million units worldwide and DS hardware shipments have reached 96.22 million units globally.
