Sales for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 fell below 8,000 units in the latest Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 7,663 units between Jan. 19 and Jan. 25.

By comparison, it sold 9,576 units the week prior.

The 360 did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales.

NPD Group Inc. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1.44 million units in the same period.

Microsoft in Sept. price cut all Xbox 360 hardware between $50 and $80 in a preemptive holiday strike.

The Arcade SKU now sells for $199, the Pro at $299 and the Elite at $399.
