Capcom Co. this week demonstrated the latest build of Resident Evil 5 for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3, which held a graphics engine on par with the version for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360.
In the latest build, Chris Redfield and secondary character Sheva flank enemies in a river boat ride. The characters must step off the boat at various points to unlock gates that prevent the boat from moving further. One switch required that one player stay stationary at the lever while the other character went to pull the other lever. At each dock point, enemies try their best to toss axes, fire arrows, and terrorize the two characters. The graphics engine for the PS3 held spectacular detail on character models, explosions, water effects, and bullet blasts, like the most recent demo build released to Xbox Live. Resident Evil 5 takes place ten years after the original title. A trailer was released in mid-2007. The latest entry will include online and offline two-player co-op for the first time in the series. NPD Group Inc. in Dec. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 836,000 units in Nov. U.S. sales. The PS3 sold 378,000 units in the same period.Resident Evil 5 will be released on Mar. 13.
