Amazon holds new Xbox 360 game sale

Retailer Amazon.com on Thurs. discounted select titles for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 in a new game sale.

The retailer price cut Xbox 360 titles by up to 50 percent, including Bioshock at $23.99, Grand Theft Auto IV at $29.99, Call of Duty: World at War at $34.99, Halo 3 at $39.99, and Left 4 Dead at $49.99.

Additionally, Amazon this week began offering a range of discounted Xbox Live products during the holiday buying period.

On Tues., the retailer price cut the Xbox Live 12-Month Gold Card to $38.99, down from a $49.99 MSRP.

Additionally, the Xbox Live 1600 Points Card was dropped to $17.99, down from $19.99 and the Xbox Live 4000 Points Card was discounted to $44.99 from $49.99.

Finally, the Xbox Live 60GB Starter Kit was price cut to $89.99, down from a $99.99 MSRP.

NPD Group Inc. in Dec. reported that the 360 sold 836,000 units in Nov. U.S. sales.

Microsoft in Dec. said that the Xbox 360 hardware outsold Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 by 3-to-1 on Black Friday, according to internal retail data sales figures.

Additionally, the company said 360 sales were 25 percent ahead of Black Friday sales figures from 2007.

This holiday, Microsoft released sequel game titles to headline year-end sales, including Gears of War 2 and Fable II.

Microsoft on Nov. 19 launched the New Xbox Experience, a dashboard overhaul that adds new channels and community services to Xbox Live.

Microsoft on Sept. 5 discounted all Xbox 360 hardware in the U.S. between $50 to $80 to spur sales.
