Wal-Mart to sell $16 Wii, DS titles

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. this week will sell video game titles for Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Nintendo DS handheld at $16 in a Black Friday promotion.
Eligible Wii titles include Cooking Mama: Cook Off, Namco Museum Remix, Game Party, Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab, and Barbie as The Island Princess. Nintendo DS titles at $16 include Lego Star Wars II, Cake Mania II, Ben 10: Protector of the Earth, and Bratz. NPD Group Inc. this week said that Wii sold 803,210 units to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the month in the U.S. The DS sold 491,176 units to rank No. 2 for the month. Nintendo in Oct. recorded a 34 percent increase in profit at 252.2 yen ($2.56 billion) in the fiscal first-half between Apr. and Sept. It subsequently increased Wii shipment forecasts to 27.5 million from 26.5 million and DS software shipments to 207 million from 197 million. Wii has shipped 34.55 million units worldwide to date, while the Nintendo DS has shipped 84.33 million units to surpass shipments of the Game Boy Advance (81.36 million).
