Namco Bandai Inc.'s Soul Calibur IV for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 led over the Xbox 360 version in launch sales at Amazon.com on Tues. morning.
Soul Calibur IV for the PS3 ranked at No. 9 in the Video Games division, while the Xbox 360 version ranked at No. 11. Soul Calibur IV is the latest entry in the weapons-based fighting series. A standard edition sells for $59.99. The $79.99 Premium Edition includes an exclusive comic/art book that is a prequel to the latest entry, a tournament kit, and a bonus redemption card that unlocks extra customization content. In addition to new and old characters, Soulcalibur IV includes Star Wars icons Darth Vader and Yoda as playable characters. The final game includes a high-definition graphics, online play, and brand new gameplay modes, including Story, Arcade, Tower of Lost Souls, Training, Character Creation, and Museum modes. In early July, Amazon recorded higher pre-sales for the Soul Calibur IV PS3 SKUs over the Xbox 360 versions. The previous installment, Soulcalibur III, was released on the Playstation 2 in 2005.
