Week recap: PS3 firmware; Xbox 360 $299; Wii No. 3

Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 fell back in Japan after a boost from Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Solid 4. The hardware ranked No. 4 in overall sales.

PS3 80GB MGS4 bundle sales increased this week upon restock at Amazon.com. The SKU retails for $499.99.

Sony this week said that Double Fusion Inc. will deploy in-game advertising to the PS3. Double Fusion said it has received support from advertisers interested in in-game ads.

Advanced sales for Namco Bandai Inc.'s Soul Calibur IV are higher on the PS3 than Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 at Amazon. The PS3 special edition SKU held the largest share of sales.

Sony this week deployed firmware 2.41 to fix hardware malfunction reports of the prior 2.40 firmware. The latest update features in-game XMB access and a Trophies accomplishments system.

The PS3 and Metal Gear Solid 4 fell out of top 10 sales this week at Amazon. MGS4 held in top 10 sales one week ago.
