While Blu-ray disc titles carry a premium price tag, lesser known titles on the format will be sold for under $10.
Amazon.com is offering several direct-to-video titles on Blu-ray disc format to be released on Apr. 1 for $9.95. Titles include Artie Lange's Beer League, Blackbeard, Category 7: The End of the World, The Curse of King Tut's Tomb: The Complete Miniseries, and The Last Sentinel. In-demand Blu-ray releases, including Planet Earth – The Complete BBC Series and The Spider-Man Trilogy, have increased in price following Toshiba Corp.'s exit from the HD DVD business. Additionally, Blu-ray disc player manufacturers and retailers are expected to keep prices stable now that the format is the default high-definition disc option for consumers. Sony last week announced new Blu-ray disc players that will sell between $400 to $500 rather than the $300 to $350 pricing older models carry. Retailers are offering retail incentives to drive Blu-ray sales to customers. Amazon is offering up to 50 percent off select Blu-ray disc titles. This week, Best Buy is offering two free Blu-ray discs with the purchase of the Panasonic 1080p Blu-ray disc player.
