Best Buy Co. Inc. this week sold out of two HD DVD player SKUs following Toshiba Corp.'s announcement that it will exit the HD DVD business.

The HD-A3 HD DVD Player and the HD-A35 HD DVD Player held a sold out status at Bestbuy.com after the retailer price cut the hardware to as low as $99.99.

Toshiba in Jan. discounted all HD DVD player SKUs in an attempt to jump start sales at retail.

Last week, Netflix Inc, Best Buy Co. Inc, and Wal-Mart stores all pledged to back Blu-ray disc over HD DVD in the U.S.

A decisive blow to the HD DVD camp came in Jan. when Warner Bros. announced that it would produce high-definition titles exclusively on Blu-ray disc.

U.S. retailers have begun offering HD DVD products at steep discounts to move inventory.

Amazon this week is offering a 57 percent off HD DVD sale to customers.

Additionally, a third-party Amazon seller price cut the HD-A3 HD DVD Player to $82.97 from a $149.99 MSRP.

Finally, K-Mart on Sun. price cut Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 HD DVD Player to $49.99 from $129.99 to clear inventory.
