Best Buy this week began offering nine free HD DVD titles with the purchase of eligible HD DVD Players from Toshiba Corp to online customers.

In the Bestbuy.com promotion, customers who purchase the HD-A3, HD-A30 or HD-A35 will receive two HD DVD discs in box, a choice of two HD DVD discs under $35 each instantly, and five HD DVD titles via mail-in rebate.

The discount is the latest promotion to spur high-definition hardware and software sales.

Amazon.com this week began offering the Toshiba HD-A3 HD DVD Player for $128.

In addition, it slashed prices for select HD DVD titles to as low as $15.99.

This month, Toshiba price cut all HD DVD players following an announcement from Warner Bros. that it will produce high-definition content exclusively on Sony Corp.'s Blu-ray disc format.
