Amazon.com on Tues. price cut the game title Virtua Fighter 5 for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 to $39.99 in the latest wave of video game retail discounts.

The newest entry in the fighting series typically retails for $59.99 at U.S. retailers.

The Xbox 360 version includes online functionality not included in a version for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3.

Amazon has previously held steep discounts to spur select video game sales. The retailer discounted the Halo 3 Legendary Edition to $79.99 on Black Friday, the annual shopping day after Thanksgiving.
